TBM Machinery & Plant
The technical expertise developed through years of designing and building machinery and plant for the transport, processing and storage of inert materials — stone, gravel and sand — for the cement, lime and gypsum industries, as well as quarries and mines, has enabled us to extend our product and service range into one of the most demanding environments in modern engineering: underground excavation.
TBM Backup Systems
We design and fabricate machinery and plant for particularly demanding operating conditions, including specialist equipment for tunnel excavation and TBM backup systems.
Equipment we have designed and built includes: spoil extraction screw conveyors (Extraction Worm), spoil belt conveyors (Belt Conveyor), spoil transport wagons (Muck Car), backup trolleys (Backup Trolley), segment handling hoists (Segment Handling Hoist), segment feeders (Segment Feeder), wagon propulsion units (Muck Car Pusher), pea gravel box conveyors (Pea Gravel Box Conveyor), pea gravel trolleys (Pea Gravel Trolley), pea gravel buffer bins (Pea Gravel Buffer Bin), pea gravel transfer systems (Pea Gravel Transfer System) and bulk cement motor trolleys (Bulk Cement Motor Trolley).
Segment handling hoist
We fabricate segment handling hoists designed to transport precast tunnel lining segments in suspension — carrying them from the segment storage area to the segment feeder sled.
The hoists are available in a range of configurations and coupling systems, dimensioned to suit site-specific clearance requirements. They can be fitted with a multidirectional rotating arm for precise positioning during release, and controlled via a pendant control panel or radio remote control.
Segment feeder, Pea gravel trolley
We fabricate segment feeder systems compatible with erectors of any type and size.
We also produce Pea Gravel Trolleys, dimensioned to suit the clearance envelope of the tunnel in question.
Muck car pusher, Pea gravel box conveyor
We fabricate wagon propulsion units designed to drive spoil wagons along the tunnel rail track.
We also fabricate transfer units for lifting and laterally shifting pea gravel boxes from the transport wagon onto the fixed structure of the TBM backup system.
Pea gravel buffer bin
Our pea gravel conveyor belts are designed and built to suit the specific requirements and clearance constraints of each tunnel.
Each unit typically comprises: a FLEXIFER 250/4 rubber conveyor belt, flat carrying idlers with supports, a rubber-lagged drive roller with supports, a tail roller with supports, a manually operated discharge gate, a hopper of customisable geometry and capacity, an optional lateral discharge screw conveyor with removable end extension (where required), and a drive unit consisting of a three-phase motor, mechanical or electronic variable speed drive, gearbox, and chain transmission linking the gearbox to both the screw conveyor and the belt.
Pea gravel transfer system
We fabricate complete transfer systems for moving pea gravel — used for annular grouting injections — from transport wagons to the conveying equipment.
The system typically consists of: a fixed container with one extraction screw conveyor and gearmotor, an inclined screw conveyor with worm gearmotor, and a mobile container equipped with three pneumatic cylinders, three valves and three control panels.
We also fabricate complete bulk cement transport systems for conveying cement from storage silos to the tunnel excavation face. Various system configurations are available depending on operational requirements.
